Confusion, is there a possibility?

Well - last cycle was a fail. My cycles are starting to getting longer - (40 days and my luteal phase is 17 days) - so we had sex yesterday and the day before that (very rough..too rough) and i was wondering if the past two days could be lucky?? because I've pretty much given up on "ttc" since it's almost been a year and nothing's happened... :/ anywho my period's suppose to be due somewhere around the 1st week of January or start somewhere around next week...I spotted today - light brown discharge with very small pink dots - but that could just be me bleeding from the intercourse right? and i started to cramp on my left side earlier (ovulation?) i hate having irregular cycles..
