Q: spotting spotting spotting

I need an answer ..i've been spotting for 4 days straight as if my period is about to start..but nothing so far?! this has never happened..i started spotting a day before my period was due, so i thought it has started..but it never came?? The spotting is tan coloured..and happens twice a day..but not when i wipe...I'm so confused?? I took a pregnancy test a day before this weird spotting but it was negative..any suggestions?
